This comprehensive course combines hands-on horse riding lessons with theoretical instruction in stable management, equine care, and horsemanship skills. Whether students are beginners or experienced riders, they will gain valuable insights and practical experience in all aspects of horse riding and horse care.
Each leader will be assessed at their own level, but you can expect to cover, at your level, the stages below.

Course Objectives:
- To introduce students to the basics of horse riding, including mounting, dismounting, steering, and controlling the horse at different gaits.
- To develop students' riding skills and confidence through progressive lessons and exercises in an indoor arena and outdoor trails.
- To teach students fundamental principles of stable management, including grooming, feeding, tacking, and basic health care for horses.
- To promote safety awareness and responsible horsemanship practices to ensure the well-being of both riders and horses.
- To foster a love and appreciation for horses and equestrian activities while emphasizing respect for the animals and the equestrian environment.
Introduction to Horse Riding at BLISS
- Orientation to the equestrian center, safety procedures, and equipment.
- Introduction to basic horse care and handling techniques.
- Mounting and dismounting exercises and first rides under supervision.
Developing Riding Skills
- Progressive riding lessons focusing on balance, posture, and control at walk and trot.
- Introduction to cantering and advanced riding techniques for more experienced riders.
- Trail rides and outdoor excursions to practice riding in different environments.
Stable Management
- Instruction in stable management practices, including grooming, feeding, and tack care.
- Learning about horse behavior, anatomy, and common health issues.
- Hands-on activities in the barn, such as mucking out stalls and preparing feed.
Advanced Riding Techniques (if appropriate)
- Advanced riding lessons focusing on jumping, dressage, or trail riding, depending on students' interests and skill levels.
- Introduction to cross-country riding or gymkhana games for more experienced riders.
- Group riding exercises and individualised instruction to address specific riding goals.
Horse Care and Horsemanship
- Review of stable management practices and principles.
- Discussion of horse welfare, nutrition, and veterinary care.
- Demonstration of advanced grooming techniques and first aid procedures for horses.
- Assessment will be based on students' progress, participation, attitude, and skill development throughout the course.
- Formative assessments, riding evaluations, and practical demonstrations will be used to assess students' riding abilities and stable management skills.
