General English Programme

Our General English Programme is designed for Junior and Senior students with an elementary to advanced level of English.

Juniors:      aged 8 - 12
Seniors:     aged 13 - 17

Students in our General English Programme will receive 15 hours of classes per week with our qualified and experienced English Language Teachers.  Teachers at Kilgraston Summer School are trained to create a student-centred environment, where the focus is on building learner confidence and language fluency, at the same time as developing accurate English.

In addition to classes being arranged by age, students will also be classed according to their level of English.  To discover this, each student will do a placement test on Day 1 of the course.

Both Junior and Senior students will have 2 classes per day.  Both age groups will have a 2-hour General English class, which will focus on developing vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, as well as the four skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening.

For the second class, Junior and Senior groups will be a little different.
Juniors: will have a 1-hour project-based class per day.  Students will work together in English on a creative project that will be presented to the whole Junior School at the end of the week.  Examples of projects could be creating a short play, making a board game, or inventing a crazy machine.
Seniors: will have a 1-hour life & communication skills class per day, which will have students work together in English on a task that will be presented to the whole Senior School at the end of the week.  Examples of these tasks could be delivering a group presentation, pitching an idea to a panel, or creating and presenting a poster project - skills that students can use in their future studies and in their future careers.

Class sizes have a maximum of 16 per class (but usually smaller), which means increased teacher-student time, and lets the teacher develop a greater understanding of students' needs.
